Clean water & sanitation

Access to clean water is a basic human right

For those living in poverty poor sanitation facilities and lack of access to safe drinking water continue to be a major threat to life and livelihood. Everyone has the right to water, everyone has the right to life.

At Zam Zam, our water fund strives to address this issue by providing vulnerable communities in Bangladesh with safe, clean and easy-to-access drinking water. These basic necessities play a key role in helping developing communities grow and thrive, allowing for increased independence and decreased demand on the limited healthcare available.

Zam Zam will utilise your generous contributions to deliver water and sanitation projects including building water wells, water pumps and sanitation services to reduce disease and death.

Access to safe drinking water can transform lives. The gift of a tube well will ensure that families have access to clean water for drinking, washing and cooking.

If you would like to donate towards a water well project there are two options:

1. Standard Tube Well (cost £300) – these are manually operated and can lift water from about 30 metres beneath the ground. They are designed to last over 10 years and can be easily maintained by the beneficiary. The wells are located in convenient locations, often between a cluster of houses.

2. Deep tube well (cost £600) – these can transform the lives of entire communities, potentially serving 200+ people. Deep tube wells draw water from up to 40 metres beneath the ground making them dependable during all seasons. Deep tube wells are typically situated in a communal place such as village centre, school or mosque.

What is process?

1. Decide if you wish to donate a standard tube well or a deep tube well and make payment either to our bank account or via PayPal to our charity account.

2. Once you have made payment please email us to confirm payment and the name of the person if you are donating on behalf of a beneficiary.

3. Our teams on the ground use local knowledge to situate the well in an area of need.

4. The well will be constructed as soon as local conditions permit.

5. You will receive a personalised feedback report with photos of the well and beneficiaries.

A well can take a number of months to complete as in some locations they can only be constructed during certain times of year.

Infrastructure projects are valid as Zakat payments as long as the beneficiaries are eligible. Our Zakat water wells and water pumps meet these criteria, providing essential support to some of the poorest and most vulnerable members of our society.
